Over a career in communications, marketing, and journalism that spans more than 40 years, Ellis B. Simon has established a proven record developing and executing strategic communications to raise visibility, change perceptions, and launch new products. He has held vice president and director-level positions in higher education, financial services, and cable television, and has reported directly to three chief executive officers.

For more than a decade, he served as Director of Public Relations for the City College of New York. His efforts to improve CCNY’s image and raise its profile helped the college: increase enrollment by one third; recruit better-prepared students, and raise more than a half billion dollars. He also created a digital newsletter sent to more than 50,000 City College faculty, staff, students, and alumni, and launched and managed the college’s Facebook page and Twitter feed.

Earlier, he increased brand visibility for boutique investment bank Williams Capital Group, where he was Vice President, Corporate Communications. Through timely and targeted media relations outreach, he got the firm’s analysts and traders frequently quoted in top-tier financial media, including The Wall Street Journal, BusinessWeek.com, and CBS Marketwatch. As interim Director of Media Relations for CNBC, he successfully promoted new prime time programming and managed business and trade press for its merger with Financial News Network.

His other credits include editorial and marketing communications assignments for such firms as Cox Communications, Deloitte, ESPN, HBO, MetLife, Nielsen and Towers Perrin. Ellis began his career as a newspaper reporter in South Carolina and later became editor of Cable Marketing magazine. He holds a B.S. in newspaper journalism from the Newhouse School at Syracuse University and an M.B.A. in marketing management from CUNY Baruch College.
